flower geek Ratios:

Build Rocket Launchers as your fodder.
Build 1 Light Laser for every 2 Rocket Launchers.
Build 1 Heavy Laser for every 10 Rocket Launchers.
Build 1 Ion Cannon for every 25 Rocket Launchers.
Build 1 Small Shield Dome when you reach 10 Rocket Launchers
Build 1 Gauss Cannon for every 50 Rocket Launchers.
Build 1 Plasma Turret for every 100 Rocket Launchers.
Build 1 Large Shield Dome when you reach 100 Rocket Launchers
Build Anti-ballistic Missiles when you reach 100 Rocket Launchers

That means when you acquire 1000 Rocket Launchers, you should have:

500 Light Lasers
100 Heavy Lasers
40 Ion Cannons
20 Gauss Cannons
10 Plasma Turret
1 Small Shield Dome
1 Large Shield Dome
some Anti-ballistic Missiles  cheers affraid affraid affraid affraid

I go for a different ratio.  Here's what I tend to end up with by the time I can build Plasma Turrets.

750 Rocket Launchers
1000 Light Lasers
250 Heavy Lasers
50 Gauss Cannons
100 Ion Cannons
10 Plasma Turrets
1 Small Shield Dome
1 Large Shield Dome
(anywhere from 20-60 Anti-Ballistic Missiles, depending on THREATCON)

Light Lasers cost about as much as a Rocket Launcher, but are more effective at dealing with Light Fighter fodder.  Heavy Lasers and Gauss Cannons play hell with Cruisers.  Gauss cannons also can deter smaller battleship fleets from raids.  The Ion Cannons have excellent shield strength, which is why I build them, plus it has that cool word "ion" in it.  And of course, the plasma is the heavy hitter behind the fodder.  

A small to moderate force of Bombers would make minced meat of this defense.  They fly slow and are fuel guzzlers, not to mention cost deuterium to build.  So if you lose one, that doesn't go into debris.  Overall, this ratio protects my overnight production about 97% of the time.  When it doesn't, I go Chuck Norris with the Light Lasers, Heavy Lasers, and Plasma Turrents!
